This course introduces the basic accounting equation and demonstrates how to maintain double entry accrual accounting records. The outcome of the course is for participants to be able to data enter information and compile financial statements.
Fees: Registration Fees for all of the MTO's online courses will be 5 days, though the course is run over a 3-week period. This fee is currently set at $300 for municipal employees and most GN employees. This is the total cost for the course and all course materials.
Municipal governments receive public funds and they are responsible to the government and other funding agencies for the appropriate use and accounting of the public funds. This course will review the financial responsibilities in the operation of a municipal government. It provides information on the important financial responsibilities of municipal officers and it also explains what is needed for effective budgeting and financial reporting.
The curriculum is designed to help the student learn the basic features of automated accounting in a “real life” accounting environment. AccPac (SAGE 300 ERP) for Windows will be the software used to teach participants the aspects of General Ledger entries, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and period end procedures.
This course is designed for Municipal Finance staff and the SAO. Other participants may be considered upon approval from their SAO.

Math Basics provides a foundation for courses requiring math. Topics in the course include fractions, exponents, ratios and the metric system.
This course provides the basic concepts for a solid foundation in such topics as cash and deposits, purchases and payments and sales and receipts. The learning exercises in the course will also help participants practice their skills in these areas.
