MTO Works to Ensure Uniform Training for Nunavut Councillors

Nunavut, November 14, 2019 – Nunavut Municipal Training Organization (MTO) has been working with key stakeholders to provide quality and uniform training to all municipal councils in Nunavut. This training will consist of an introductory video, and two texts – Nunavut Councillors Handbook, and Nunavut Guide to Council Meetings. This new program will ensure the best possible knowledge on governance is provided to every municipality in Nunavut.

The texts and video will first be released in English, followed by Inuktitut and Inuinnaqtun. English copies have been sent out to every municipality on November 7, 2019. There will also be copies available at for download.

MTO has collaborated with Community and Government Services (CGS), Nunavut Association of Municipalities (NAM), and Nunavut Association of Municipal Administrators (NAMA) on this project. October 28, 2019 was the first time Nunavut has had a municipal election for 4-year terms in every municipality, and this makes it the perfect time to start a uniform training program for councils across the Territory.

The Nunavut Municipal Training Organization is a non-profit society based in Iqaluit. Our mandate is to identify, develop, and implement programs to provide municipal staff with skills and knowledge that can contribute to excellence in municipal program and service delivery across the territory of Nunavut.
