Course:

Bylaw Officer - Fundamentals

The Municipal Government Program presents a unique learning opportunity for Nunavut Bylaw Officers. This course offers a theory basis for the roles and responsibilities of Nunvut's municipal Peace Officers, Municipal Enforcement Offciers and Bylaw Officers.  Specifically this course will focus on the following topics:

Animal Control:

Types of Animals, Capture and Handling, Disease Recognition Prevention and Control, Control Signs & Assessments

Performing Traffic Stops:

Types of Traffic Stops, Critical Aspects, Vehicle Stop Techniques, Practical Hands-on Experience

Conflict Resolution:

Understanding Conflicts, Conflict Analysis, Managing and Resolving Conflicts, A model conflict resolution strategy, & Practical simulations

 

Participants should already be employed as a Peace Officer, or Municipal Enforcement Officer/Bylaw Officer.  Applicants who have been hired by their hamlet and will carry out these duties as a secondary responsibility will also be considered.
